LPGA Commissioner Carolyn Bivens is Out

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The LPGA Commissioner Carolyn Bivens will not complete her remaining 18 month term of her 3 year extension contract. The LPGA Tour has elected to release the Commissioner of her role while the Board of Directors plans to immediately identify an interim replacement and begin an extensive search for a new leader. The leadership of Bivens has been in question for the past few years with the loss of 7 tour events since 2007. To date there are only 10 confirmed LPGA tournaments for 2010… a huge shortfall from the 30 events scheduled in 2009.

Key LPGA players, including Paula Cremer, Natilie Gublis, Michelle Wie, and Cristie Kerr, have been concerned about the direction the Commissioner has been taking the Tour over the years and reportedly authored a letter to the Board of Directors requesting Bivens’ resignation indicating the decline of the Tour cannot be attributed to the weakening economy but to that of controversal leadership.

Can the Board of Directors find the right person to rescue the LPGA Tour? How will the US Women’s Open fair this weekend? How will Bivens’ ousting impact the upcoming Solheim Cup at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove, IL?

Is David Duval back?

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

After a great, if surprising, performance at the US Open, David Duval is looking strong heading into the John Deere Classic. Once the world’s number one player, Duval’s fall from grace surprised even hardened golf fans who have seen many favorites make it big and then fall even bigger.

With his swing looking similar to what it did in Duval’s heyday this could be his “comeback.” We’ll have more for you over the course of the tournament. Personally I’ve always loved an underdog so I’m rooting for him.

John Deere Classic – TPC Deere Run

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

The John Deere Classic is this weekend in the great state of Illinois. Who is going to win this one? What will the winning score be? Kenny Perry? Steve Stricker? Brandt Snedeker?

TPC at Deere Run is a very beautiful, scenic course. Very well manicured. Very challenging to the average golfer. These guys tend to tear it up. I don’t get it.

Tiger Woods – 2009 AT&T National Host and Champion

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Even as the host of the AT&T National, Tiger Woods had his eye on the ultimate prize … his 68th championship during his PGA tour career. Going into the final round at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, Tiger was tied at -10 under with Anthony Kim, the defending champion of 2008. Tiger’s stellar performance took him to the lead on #10 with a birdie taking him to -13. But #11 resulted in a bogey, making Tiger fall back to be tied with Hunter Mahan, who shot a 62 finishing at -12 for the tournament. Tiger rallied on #16 with a birdie putt regaining his lead at -13 which he maintained for the remainder of the round for the victory. His victory moved him to the top of the PGA money list ($4,560,163) for 2009 and the lead position in the FedEx Cup with 2,051 points.

The AT&T National held over the July 4th weekend was a multi-faceted event celebrating the men and women who serve our country in regal fashion while raising money to help support the Tiger Woods Foundation and greater Washington DC supported youth programs. Tiger’s $1.1 million winnings will be donated to the aforementioned organizations. The Tiger Woods Foundation was established in 1996 by Tiger and his father Earl to empower young people to reach their highest potential through character development and enrichment programs offered through the Foundation and at the Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim, California.

Congratulations, Tiger, on your 68th championship win and your contribution to helping the kids of America!
