The Golf Grip

As you read this golf tip, please keep in mind that it may not apply to your unique needs.  Always consult with your local PGA professional before attempting to apply any golf tip you have read from a newspaper, magazine, book, internet, etc.

   
Grip pressure is more important than the positioning of your grip.  However, if you are just learning the game and you have yet to match a grip to your swing idiosyncrasies, a fundamentally correct grip is as follows: 

1. First grip the club with your lead hand (left for right handed players). 
2. Hold the grip in your fingers and allow the palm to wrap around the side of the grip that faces up and away from you. 
3. Your left thumb will point towards 1 minute past noon if you were looking down towards and upside down clock. 
4. The right pinky finger will then interlock or overlap with the left index finger. 
5. The right fingers will hold the grip lightly, and the right palm will wrap around and over the left thumb. 
6. The right thumb will point towards one minute before noon.
