LPGA Tour Championship Update

After the first round was called due to darkness at 5:25, more delays continued on Friday and Saturday due to rain and unplayable coure conditions. The second round of the LPGA Tour Championship was supposed to tee off at 7 a.m. Friday morning. A six-hour rain delay pushed the start time to 1 p.m. Friday and play was then suspended for darkness after 5 p.m. On Saturday, the second round was a complete wash out due to the rainy weather. The Tournament was again delayed on Sunday morning until 12:05 p.m. due to unplayable course conditions. The second round was then suspended at 5:21 p.m. due to darkness. At that time, 35 players had not completed their second rounds. Play is scheduled to resume on Monday morning at 7 a.m., at whcih time the cut will take place and  the final round will follow.

To make things a bit more interesting with all the weather delay drama, Jiya Shin, the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year, played lights out and after 34 holes, was -7. But play was once again suspended due to darkness. Should Jiyai Shin win the Tour Championship she would be the tfirst player since Nancy Lopez in 1978 to win both the Rookie of the Year and the Rolex Player of the Year award ias well as being the top LPGA Official Money winner for 2009 n the same year.  Jiya leads three-time defending Rolex Player of the Year Lorena Ochoa by eight points in the Player of the Year race. Either player can clinch the award with a victory this week. Ochoa is through 35 holes at -6 in a tie for third.

Kristy McPherson currently leads the offical leaderboard with a -5 (67). She was able to complete both the first round and the second round to lead the way. The race for the Rolex Player of the Year is becoming very interesting! Monday's rounds should prove to be quite exciting as Shin and Lorena Ochoa continue their race for the Rolex Player of the Year award.
